International Tiger Day 2020: History, Significance, Quotes, and Messages

Global Tiger Day or International Tiger Day is an annual celebration to raise awareness for tiger conservation. The International Tiger Day is celebrated on 29 July every year. It was created in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit. The goal of the day is to promote a global system for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues.

More awareness in the entire world of tiger populations and the challenges for their conservationists. Every four years India counts the number of wild tigers and showed a promising rise from 1411 in 2006 to 2967 in 2019. India is a habitat of 75% of total tigers on the earth.
The population of tigers in India is as follows:

In the year 2006 - 1411
In the year 2010 - 1706
In the year 2014 - 2226
In the year 2019 - 2967

Reasons for decrease in Tiger population:

Poaching and illegal trade:

Poaching of tiger happens as there is a huge demand for each body part of the tiger from Whiskers to its tail. Tiger body parts are in great demand for traditional Chinese medicine; hence they fetch big money in the illegal wildlife trade.

Habitat Loss:

The tiger Habitats have encroached in a big way. Humans have cut down the forest area for purposes like agricultural lands, timber and to create enough living space for themselves. The cutting of forests has lead to 93 percent loss of natural habitat of tigers hence lowering chances of survival. It has led to the conflict between humans and tigers, where both are competing for their own spaces.

Climate changes:

Rising of the sea levels is wiping out the Sundarbans, the largest tiger habitat of Royal Bengal Tigers.

Nelson Mandela International Day 2020

Nelson Mandela International Day Or Mandela Day is an annual international day in honor of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July. Many people and organizations around the world take part in many activities to promote Nelson Mandela Day. These activities include volunteering, sport, art, education, music, and culture. The first global celebration of Mandela Day was on 18 July 2009, Mandela's 91st birthday. Mandela Day is a global call to action that celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world, the ability to make an impact.

The Mandela Day campaign message:

"Mandela has fought for social justice for 67 years. We're asking you to start with 67 minutes.
"We would be honored if such a day can serve to bring together people around the world to fight poverty and promote peace, reconciliation, and cultural diversity" according to Mandela.

About Nelson Mandela:

Nelson Mandela was born on 18 July 1918 in the village of Mvezo in Umtata, then part of South Africa's Cape Province. His mother was Nonqaphi Nosekeni and father Nkosi Mphakanyiswa Gadla Mandela. When Nelson was 12 years old, his father died and so he became a ward of Jongintaba at the Great Place at Mqhekezweni. He completed his B.A Degree through the University of South Africa and went to Fort Hare for his graduation in 1943. Nelson Mandela was arrested on several occasions and stood trial four times. He spent over 27 years in prison.

Nelson Mandela’s writings included:

I Am Prepared to Die
No Easy Walk to Freedom
The Struggle Is My Life
In His Own Words
Long Walk to Freedom

Nelson Mandela is known for several things, but perhaps he is best known for successfully leading the resistance to South Africa’s policy of apartheid in the 20th century, during which he was infamously incarcerated at Robben Island Prison (1964–82). He won the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1993 for having led the transition from apartheid to a multiracial democracy.

nelson-mandela-international-day-messages

Nelson Mandela is considered by many to be the father of South Africa. Mandela was an anti-apartheid activist who fought for those who were disadvantaged by the system of racial segregation. Mandela became a civil rights leader and leading many against the Apartheid government.
A friend once asked me how I could reconcile my creed of African nationalism with a belief in dialectical materialism. For me, there was no contradiction. I was first and foremost African nationalist fighting for our emancipation from minority rule and the right to control our own destiny. But at the same time, South Africa and the African continent were part of the larger world. Our problems, while distinctive and special, were not unique, and a philosophy that placed those problems in an international and historical context of the greater world and the course of history was valuable. I was prepared to use whatever means necessary to speed up the erasure of human prejudice and the end of chauvinistic and violent nationalism.
—Nelson Mandela

I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons will live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to see realized. But if it needs to be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.
—Mandela's Rivonia Trial Speech

Inspiring Nelson Mandela Quotes:

A winner is a dreamer who never gives up.

It always seems impossible until it’s done.

Man’s goodness is a flame that can be hidden but never extinguished.

You will achieve more in this world through acts of mercy than you will through acts of retribution.

I never lose, I either win or learn.

What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others.

May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.

The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.

History will judge us by the difference we make in the everyday lives of children.

What is the International Criminal Court (ICC)?

The International Criminal Court (ICC) investigates and, where warranted, tries individuals charged with the gravest crimes of concern to the international community: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and the crime of aggression.

The Court is participating in a global fight to end impunity, and through international criminal justice, the Court aims to hold those responsible accountable for their crimes and to help prevent these crimes from happening again.

The Court cannot reach these goals alone. As a court of last resort, it seeks to complement, not replace, national Courts. Governed by an international treaty called the Rome Statute, the ICC is the world’s first permanent international criminal court.

The Aim of International Justice Day:

The aim of this day is to unite everyone who wants to support justice as well as promote victims rights. It is to help prevent serious crimes and those that put the peace, security and well-being of the world at risk.

Celebrate pi (π) by eating pie, throwing pies, and discussing the significance of the number π. Pi denotes the relationship between a circle's circumference and its diameter and is denoted by the fraction 22/7 which calculates approximately to 3.14

Pi can be expressed as the fraction 22/7, which is an approximation of its actual value (hence the word "approximation" in the day's title). Pi Approximation Day is particularly celebrated in countries that write their dates in the date/month format, where today's date would be written as 22 July or 22/7.

How to Observe

Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate the day:

A thermal engineer must have knowledge of thermodynamics and the process to convert generated energy from thermal sources into chemical, mechanical, or electrical energy. A thermal engineer must allow the proper amount of energy to be transferred for correct use. Too much and the components could fail, too little and the system will not function at all.

What does a thermal engineer do?

A thermal engineer will maintain, create, or repair mechanical systems that involve a heat transfer process into other forms of energy. They analyze how mechanical heat sources interact with different physical and industrial systems.
